It’s not uncommon to find abandoned demolition projects in declining urban areas. Projects are started to reclaim scrap materials and make room for future development. Unfortunately, once the most valuable materials are recovered, there is little incentive to finish the final stages of debris & rubble removal, and site restoration.
In this site, I found the left over wall & foundation supporting the sky-walk to the adjacent building visually interesting; standing like a decaying monument to the building which once enclosed the space. I can merely speculate as to why the sky-walk was left in place. We do know abandoned demolition sites are finally cleaned up only when the public complaints start to roll into city hall. Given this site is somewhat hidden from public view and the overall decline in this part of the city, I suspect the “monument” will stand for quite a while longer.
